Nutrition

On admission to hospital our dietician will assess your needs so that you can agree a meal plan. The menu is carefully designed by our chef and dieticians based on research that shows which foods help your body and your mood.

Our dietician follows your progress carefully throughout your admission. They participate in your weekly ward round, and hold a weekly dietetic clinic where you can discuss your diet plan on a one to one basis.

We will work with you through a series of small steps towards foods and portions where weight restoration can restart. Our aim is to re-establish and maintain healthy eating habits required for a happy life at a healthy weight.

We understand that making changes to the amount and type of food you eat may cause you a lot of anxiety. During meals staff eat with you and provide support and encouragement to help you through. In this way you can learn to manage your worries and concerns about food.

Our aim is to help you challenge and change disordered eating habits. This will involve support with regular eating, meal planning, shopping for and cooking food. Our Occupational Therapist (OT) will work with you to put together a plan that meets your needs. This will be a stepped programme that slowly increases the responsibility you take for your food. We will progress you through portioning your own meals, eating snacks out, shopping for food, and self-catering supported by your team.

We run a Healthy Ways With Food group. This is an psycho-educational group which will support you to challenge unhelpful beliefs about food you may have developed.
